The ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions Board of Directors today announced the appointment of Steve Aliferis as Chief Executive Officer. He joins the business on 11 June, 2024.
Steve Aliferis is a banking and payments executive with more 30 years’ experience in Australia and APAC, including senior executive positions with Commonwealth Bank of Australia, National Australia Bank, Westpac, and Verifone. Before joining ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions, Mr Aliferis held a range of directorships, was founder and CEO of Global Payments and E-commerce Distribution (GPED) – and most recently Chair, International Bank of Australia.
Marc-Henri Desportes, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Worldline, said “Worldline has been the first global payment player partnering in such a joint-venture, to bring its innovative products and leverage it through a bank distribution channel in Australia. Together with ANZ and since 2022, the management team has successfully established operations, brought new products and engaged migration of merchants on its platform. We are committed to pursue this journey, bringing further industry-leading solutions and customer focus to successfully support the business’ growth. We believe that Steve, who is an accomplished and internationally recognised payments executive, will be the perfect leader to deliver the business’ strategic objectives.”
John Campbell, Board Member ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions and General Manager, Commercial Transact and Save, ANZ Banking Group, said Steve Aliferis’ appointment would ensure ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions continued to provide industry-leading payment solutions. “Our customers – both big and small businesses – want the world’s best and most innovative payment solutions tailored for their needs. With his global know-how, strong network, and decades of industry experience, that’s exactly what Steve will help bring to the table,” he said. “As ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions continues to grow in Australia and the region, Steve’s experience will be critical in driving its success.”
Steve Aliferis said ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions was distinctly placed to support small business and large enterprise customers because of its local distribution network and global product set. “ANZ Worldline occupies a unique position in the Australian payments market, bringing together the tech and innovation focus of a global fintech with the deep market knowledge and expertise of a bank,” he said. “It’s a real opportunity to bring the best of both worlds to customers and I look forward to joining ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions and the Worldline global family to help us reach that potential.”
Marc-Henri Desportes paid tribute to outgoing CEO Petr Ryska, who has played a critical role in the formation of the joint venture since 2021, and was key to establishing ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions following its launch in April 2022. “We thank Petr for his unwavering commitment to establishing ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions. With his assignment now complete, we look forward to welcoming him back to Europe, following a short transition period.”
