Merchant Choice Routing

Multi Network Card Routing (MNCR)

Got a question? Contact support

Multi-Network Card Routing is a feature which allows ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions to direct a contactless transaction made using a Relevant Multi-Network Card (e.g. a Visa Debit Card or Mastercard Debit Card), through the domestic eftpos network or an international card scheme network (e.g. Visa or Mastercard).

Frequently asked questions

  • Multi Network Card Routing applies to transactions that are processed using a physical Relevant Multi-Network Card using contactless technology (i.e. when a cardholder taps their physical Visa Debit card at a terminal).

    Multi Network Card Routing does not apply to transactions made:

    • using any other card types (e.g. Visa Credit card with a linked bank account);
    • when a cardholder physically inserts their Multi-Network Card and selects the account; or
    • when the cardholder pays using their Mobile Wallet (e.g. ApplePay).
  • You can let the customer know that if they insert their Multi-Network Card into the terminal and they manually select the applicable account, this will route as per the cardholder’s choice (ie. if they press credit this will route via Visa or Mastercard).

  • The terminal will prompt you to insert or swipe the card if the Electronic Terminal cannot process the contactless transaction. The transaction will then be processed as a normal card transaction and a PIN may be required, in this scenario the transaction will no longer be eligible for Multi Network Card Routing and the transaction will route as per the cardholder’s choice.

  • When Multi Network Card Routing is activated this will be displayed on you Electronic Terminal. If your customer wants to select their preferred network they will need to insert their Multi-Network Card into the terminal and manually select their preferred network.

Important Information

For ANZ business account holders, funds are available on the same day for online transactions, processed through the terminal and settled before 9pm (AEST). For non-ANZ business account holders, for online transactions processed through the terminal, ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions will transfer the funds to the merchant’s bank on the following business day and the availability of the funds will be determined by the merchant’s bank. For transactions processed offline or via Paper Merchant Vouchers, these settlement times do not apply.
